[ "Go out there. The soldier in the craft is bound to be vulnerable. We need every chance we get to obtain Galran inside information. Take him prisoner."
So far, so good. Going outside into the ruins of Plaht City has become ruins over the last three years of warfare, but with the rest of his team dispatched on a defense mission elsewhere, James certainly finds himself feeling nervous. Scanners hadn't detected any other lifeforms in the area and somehow that makes it worse. It's supposed to be safe. That's never a good sign.
Against his expectations, James manages to reach the crash site without incident. He approaches the spacecraft cautiously, rifle raised. If anything is waiting in there, he'll be ready. ]

[ James breathes out and opens the door of his landrover and steps inside. No way in hell is he letting this maybe!Keith get in first and just drive off with it. The moment of having his back turned is unfortunate, but the mission uniform is reinforced and James is trained in combat. He's at least reasonably confident here. ]
The Galra have killed nearly everything I've ever known. I can't afford to get trusting.

The ruins of the city around him had been troubling, but it wasn't clear how much of Earth was now either obliterated or under Galran occupation. James' casual revelation has Keith's blood going cold. Instinctively, though belatedly he recognizes this is a bad idea, he grabs James' arm to hold him in place and force eye contact.]
They've what?
[The question comes out almost snarled and his grip is a fair bit tighter than he means for it to be; he's still not really used to his own Galran strength.]
Just how far has the invasion progressed?!
[The continued doubt over his identity and intentions is annoying as fuck, but at the end of the day, it's not like James would've been treating him any better if he looked the way he used to.]

The question makes tension drain from his body again. He understands now that he isn't in immediate danger. And looking into Keith's eyes right now makes him believe more than ever before that he's confronted with the real deal. It doesn't make the way his arms are being crushed any more pleasant, but it makes it... understandable. ]
We've lost contact to the rest of the planet years ago. I couldn't tell you how it is going for them, but I assume badly. The Garrison is our only stronghold across America. Everything else is ruins or working colonies.
The invasion isn't progressing, it's basically finished.
